Mirror mirror on the wall 15, 2021</strongPaint on canvas, mirror with metal frame, diameter 17 cm
What appeals to us about Radai’s works is the tension they evoke. Her portraits are also depictions of feelings we all have. Radia is a keen ‘observer’, allowing her to bring to light our behaviours. Here, Radai does this by painting on a mirror. She zooms in on the individual, faces are out of focus, and the personal disappears. What remains are comprehensive image fragments in which clothing, gestures and posture signify emotional meanings. What we find exciting in this work is that you can also see yourself or others through the mirror, making us both ‘voyeur’ and ‘object’.
