A solo exhibition of work by Lithuanian painter Ričardas Vaitiekūnas, featured paintings from different periods of his eventful career and curated by guest curator Kestutis Šapoka. Vaitiekūnas (1940) lives and works in Vilnius.
Povilas Ričardas Vaitiekūnas (1940) is one of Lithuania’s most influential painters. Although Vaitiekūnas cultivated the Lithuanian Expressionist movement in the interwar period, his work can also be placed in the wider European tradition of Expressionist Colourists, as found in Germany and France and to a lesser extent the Netherlands and Scandinavia. Colours and their interaction are central to his work; they are the backbone around which form, content, and the existential ‘body’ of the painting are built.
This exhibition was realised in collaboration with the Bonnefanten Museum.
