31.08.2025 — 01.03.2026
Hedge House

In the autumn of 2025, Kasteel Wijlre estate presents the group exhibition We Live Here Too. This exhibition sheds new light on the South Limburg landscape: how do animals experience this environment, in which tourism, agriculture and industry leave their mark?

Marta & Slava – Hidden Messages 31.08.2025 — 01.03.2026
Coach House, Garden

In Hidden Messages, Marta & Slava (Marta Volkova & Slava Shevelenko) explore the subtle, often invisible interaction between man and nature. They create new work especially for the Kasteel Wijlre estate – from vases and drawings to sculptures and scale models – inspired by the hidden language of plants and flowers.

The artist duo, who live and work in Maastricht, combines mythical and scientific themes with philosophical and political reflection, often playful and ironic in tone. In this exhibition, they are guided by recent insights into plant biology: flowers contain UV patterns that show pollinating insects the way. What can we learn from this natural communication?

In a time of ecological, geopolitical and cultural pressure, Hidden Messages offers a poetic view of how nature and culture can strengthen each other. The exhibition is developed within Kasteel Wijlre estate's attention for the relationship between humans and the more-than-human world.

Castle interior & Collection Eyck
11.05.2025 — 01.03.2026
Castle

Since autumn 2024, the ground floor of the former Eyck family residence, a castle from 1652, has been made accessible for
visitors. Here you get an impression of the way in which art and the daily life of the Eyck couple, who moved from Heerlen to Wijlre in 1980, were intertwined. Jo and Marlies Eyck passed away in 2021 and 2023 respectively. The 'Gesamtkunstwerk' Kasteel Wijlre estate was their life's work, in which they harmoniously integrated contemporary art, architecture and nature with daily life. The ground floor of the Castle offers a glimpse into what that daily environment looked like.
